While students study their academic subjects in the English language, the French and Arabic languages are an important part of our AAC curriculum. Students begin informal French in KG1 at age 4. They gain vocabulary through songs and games in the French language.
Students begin the daily study of French at age 5 in KG2, and Arabic is introduced with daily instruction in 2nd Grade at age 7.
The AAC language teachers work together to assign each student to the correct level for both French and Arabic. The student then studies each language in division level groups alongside students who are at the same level of language study. For instance, a student who arrives from the US in 7th Grade with no prior knowledge in French or Arabic would be placed in the Middle School level 1 class. All of the level 1 students in grades 6, 7, and 8 would be together studying at the appropriate level. The level system serves the language acquisition needs of students first beginning the study of the language through students who are at advanced levels of study. As the students progress in their knowledge of each language, they are advanced through the division's levels and readied to enter the language levels at the next grade division.
