How many students are in each class at AAC?

We keep our classes small in order to allow each student more interaction with his/her teachers. Class size is limited to 22 students. Our vision includes remaining small in order to foster a family atmosphere.

How many classes are in each grade level?

At AAC there is only one class section of each grade level. Thus, there is a limit of 22 students for each grade level.

What type of diploma will my child receive?

AAC will offer an accredited American high school diploma to its graduating seniors. As well, we are preparing to offer an International Baccalaureate diploma as we build and develop our high school program.

What are the grade-level age requirements for students at AAC?

Each fall, students must have reached the correct age on or before September 1. Students should be the following ages to BEGIN each grade level in September:

Nursery 2 years
Preschool 3 years
KG1 4 years
KG2 5 years
1st Grade 6 years
2nd Grade 7 years

Each additional grade level requires one additional year of age.

Is transportation service provided?

Yes, AAC offers transportation service to/from school for a limited number of students. Contact the office to determine if your home address can be added to one of our routes.

What are the school hours?

Class hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
The students arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. At 7:45, the first bell rings and students go to their first period class. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 a.m.; at this point students should be seated in their classrooms and ready to work. Students can enroll in the nursery and preschool classes from 9:30 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. or from 7:45 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. All classes dismiss at 3:05 p.m.

Does AAC serve hot lunch?

Yes. All students must remain at school through the lunch hour and have the option of enrolling in the hot lunch program on a pre-paid basis. Monthly menus are published in advance.

Does AAC administer standardized tests?

AAC administers the NWEA MAP tests (www.nwea.org/assessments) to assess our students' levels. We are a member of the College Board Organization and are approved to offer the PSAT/SAT exams on our campus. Additionally, AAC administers TOEFL and Cambridge First Certificate practice exams.

Does AAC require entrance testing?

Yes. Students entering KG1 through 1st Grade will be scheduled for a one-on-one assessment of their knowledge. Students entering 2nd Grade and beyond will be asked to sit an admissions exam that covers Mathematics as well as English, French, and Arabic as appropriate.

How often will my child receive grade reports?

Formal grade reports are prepared at the end of each quarter (approximately every nine weeks).

What holidays does AAC observe?

AAC observes all major Moroccan and American holidays. See our school year calendar located in the Student Life section of this website for exact dates.

Will my child have a homeroom teacher?

Students in elementary school have classroom teachers who serve in the traditional "homeroom" role. The primary classroom teacher for each elementary grade teaches the core subjects English, math, science and social studies. Other subjects such as Arabic, French, P.E., etc. are taught by specialist teachers. Beginning in middle school, students will take part in the AAC Advisory Program. Each student will be assigned to a faculty advisor who will work with that student, both individually and in a small group capacity, throughout middle and high school.

How can I meet with my child's teacher?

You are welcome to schedule a meeting with any of your child’s teachers. Call the main office, and the receptionist can help you to schedule an appointment time which is mutually convenient. You may meet with teachers during any time that they are not responsible for teaching or supervising students.

What should I do if I am late for school?

Students should make every effort to arrive at school in a timely manner. Late arrival disrupts the teaching process for the entire class. If you must be tardy, you must call the school ahead of time to inform us of your late arrival in order to be admitted to class.

What should I do if I need to leave early?

Again, students miss valuable instruction if they do not remain at school for the full day. In the event of important medical appointments, etc., a parent should phone the AAC office in advance to inform us of the planned early departure. AAC cannot allow any student to leave school early with someone other than a parent if we have not received advance notice from a parent.

How can I get my homework if I am absent?

If a student is absent due to illness, we advise the student to focus on regaining his/her health as quickly as possible. He/she can collect assignments from each teacher upon return to school. If a student must be absent otherwise, please contact the office at least two days in advance in order to allow the office time to request and collect the assignments from each teacher.

How does the school communicate with parents?

One of the most vital means of communication with parents is this school website. Parents should check the news stories on the front page of this website frequently for updates and announcements. Two parent/teacher conference dates are scheduled into the yearly calendar at the end of the 1st and 3rd Quarters. Parents or teachers may request further conferences to discuss a student's progress at any time during the year. When AAC has announcements, school news and reminders to communicate to parents the Head of School publishes a Friday Newsletter. It is distributed to all students at the dismissal gate on Friday afternoons.

Do children have to wear a uniform?

AAC does have a uniform that is required for a student to be admitted to classes. The AAC uniform consists of pants/shorts, polo shirts, sweaters, jackets, and PE shorts. Uniforms are available for purchase throughout the year. You may contact the AAC office to obtain the contact details of our supplier.

Do children get homework at AAC?

Yes. Homework assignments vary according to grade level and teacher preference. Younger students will likely not have homework assignments every night, instead having homework one to three times per week. Students in middle and high school are assigned homework from each of their different instructors, and many times they are expected to review notes or materials from the daily instruction.

Is English the only language of instruction at AAC?

No, AAC is proud to offer a trilingual program. While English is the language of instruction for the core subjects, students study both French and Arabic daily.

How will my child learn English?

This depends on the age of your child. At AAC, students naturally acquire language through exposure to the new language in an authentic setting. The student is immersed in the new language in the mainstream classroom to gain the most possible exposure. Younger students typically learn more quickly in an English immersion setting, while older students benefit greatly from additional EFL classes or one-on-one tutoring. To a great extent, our English program is tailor made to fit the individual child.

My child speaks only English. Will he be at a disadvantage when he enters a language class?

We have beginning French and Arabic classes at most grade levels in addition to the more advanced classes. These beginner classes support the language acquisition of students who have not been exposed to these languages before.

What happens if my child is injured at school?

AAC has a school nurse on site each day to attend to student’s needs due to illness or injury. She will treat minor injuries at the on-site clinic and determine if the student needs to be referred to a professional medical clinic for further care.

Does AAC offer counseling services to its students?

Yes, the AAC counselor is available to students, parents, faculty and staff each school day. In addition, the College counselor works with High School students to prepare for college entrance.

What is the behavior policy at AAC?

We expect students to be positive members of the AAC school community. This includes treating teachers, classmates, school property, and themselves with respect at all times. During student orientation, students are acquainted with rules and regulations in the school. The AAC Discipline Policy explains the differing levels of consequence which may be assigned to students who choose to exhibit negative behaviors at AAC.

Is the tuition the same for everyone?

Yes, there is no tuition difference based on nationality or citizenship.
